Never So Alone

I watched the sun set blood red

falling down on the horizon

disappearing into darkness

and painting the sky in its wake.

I thought of you

as i drove down the road

belting out songs

until my vocal chords were raw

and feeling the wind in my hair

as i sped down the highway

further and further away from you.

I thought of how

i can feel my heart, heavy

and full within my chest

every time i feel you near

every time you press your lips

to mine.

I thought of your eyes

and how i can feel you

sitting beside me

keeping me safe and warm

even though you're not here

even though you're miles away.

I watched the moon rise platinum gold

low on the eastern sky

and illuminate the world

with a soft glow

and turn the highway

into a ribbon of black coal.

I thought of you as I drove

further away from you still,

thought of the sound of your voice

thought of the way that you hold me.

I thought of your skin

and the way it tastes salty and sweet

how it is warm and smooth,

how you pulled me closer

and the way that your smell

filled all of my senses.

I thought of how

you make me feel real and whole

even when you're miles away

and how you remind me

of who I am,

even while I feel that

I am becoming lost in you.

I drove into the parking lot

parked the car and sat alone,

I closed my eyes and thought of you

and felt like I was home.
